The Sphinx Foundation Inc. is an important part of the Perth Modernian Society Inc. The Foundation was created in 1995 to provide financial and development services for Perth Modern School (PMS).

The Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors who are appointed for skills such as legal, financial, investing, project management and school management.

From 2000 to 2005 the Foundation’s major project was to research the history of the first 50 years of Perth Modern School resulting in a comprehensive history titled Perth Modern School: The History and the Heritage, published in April 2005.

The Foundation’s next project, which is ongoing, was to establish and develop a visionary Sphinx Scholarship Fund.  A fund-raising appeal was launched in November 2010 to raise money for scholarships and bursaries. In the years since then, generous donations and wise investments have increased the capital base to over $1,500,000 (2025).

There is a dual emphasis for awarding the Scholarships. Awards are made based on either economic need or scholastic success. The Board is proud to have been able to assist students with economic or other disadvantageous circumstances, as well as remotely located students. Democratic selection of students on merit means that a significant number of students with equity needs receive some form of assistance to attend Perth Modern School (PMS).

The Sphinx Foundation is continuing to increase both the number and value of awards. Donations have been received from a variety of sources.
