The Sphinx Foundation is associated with the Perth Modernian Society and was created in 1995 to provide financial and development services for Perth Modern School through the Perth Modernian Society.

It has a governing Board of up to seven members selected for their legal, financial, project management and school management skills.

From 2000-2005 the Foundation’s major project was to thoroughly research the history of Perth Modern School and produce a comprehensive history of the school titled ‘Perth Modern School: The History and the Heritage’ published in April 2005.

Its next project, which continues to this day, was to establish a Sphinx Scholarship Fund.  A fund-raising appeal was launched in November 2010 to raise money for scholarships and bursaries. In the years since then, generous donations have increased the invested capital base to over $1,000,000 (as at March 2021).

There is a dual emphasis for awarding the Scholarships – economic need and/or scholastic success.

The Board is proud to have been able to assist students with economic or other disadvantaging circumstances as well as Aboriginal or remotely located students. Democratic selection of students on merit means that a significant number of students with equity needs attend the school. The scheme is continuing to grow and in 2020 over 55 awards were made.

The Sphinx Foundation is continuing to increase both the number and value of awards. Donations have come in from former students, parents, other foundations and the general public. If you wish to help the school in this way, use the donate button below.  The Foundation is a registered charity and, as such, all donations are tax-deductible.
